About Ong Shunmugam
Founded by Priscilla Shunmugam in 2010, Ong Shunmugam is a contemporary womenswear label that skilfully infuses modern references into classic designs. The use of traditional fabric prints and patterns celebrates her passion for the rich Asian culture and is the testimony of appreciation for her Indian and Chinese heritage.
Trained as a lawyer in her university days, Priscilla pursued her law career in an oil and gas company upon graduation as per her other peers. After a year of climbing the corporate ladder, she made a seemingly irrational decision – leaving her prestigious position to study fashion design abroad. However, she did not look back since then. With the launch of her first collection Orientalism in December 2010, Priscilla swiftly developed new designs and styles which gained her recognition from the local fashion scene. Within a short period of five years since incorporation, Ong Shunmugam has been featured in renowned local and overseas events such as Singapore and Paris Fashion Week. It has also won various accolades such as the Grand Award at the Design for Asia Awards 2013. In 2015, Priscilla became the first fashion designer from Singapore to sit as a jury member at the Cannes Lions Festival.
